Nautical Kids' Room

Have your nesting instincts kicked in now that Fall is here? Most of my spring and summer are filled with yard work and outdoor projects, and when it starts to get chilly I think about changes that I want to make indoors.

Some of my kids' rooms are decorated, but some are not. I am planning on decorating what we call "Jack's room" but which is really just a guest bedroom since he likes to sleep with siblings. I have decided on a nautical theme, but that doesn't narrow it down very much! There are sooo many choices in color palette and creativity.

Nautical kids' rooms and nautical nurseries are very popular! Not only are the gender-neutral -- great for that newborn surprise you are waiting for, but the nautical theme also seems to answer the call of the sea inside many a young child.

This set up would be perfect if you have a beach home. It is neutral and can accommodate several guests. I love how the wood floor resembles the deck of a ship, and I will never (and I mean NEVER) grow tired of navy blue stripes.

What catches my eye in this room is the nautical rope light fixture and the lobster pillow.

I love everything nautical ... from signal flags to sailcloth bags, I can't get enough.

I'm pretty sure we won't be going quite this extravagant, but it's fun to look!

Nautical Dorm Room, Take 2

For our final installment of Dorm Room Decorating Week, here is another mood board for dorm room decorating ideas - Nautical Dorm Room, Take 2

Nautical is a great unisex theme, in case you're in need of some compromise.

This time I chose a natural fiber rug both for the look and to highlight a rug that would be ideal for those who suffer from allergies. It is also extremely resistant to stains and easy to clean, so it's also a great choice for the student who isn't known for his or her love for housecleaning.

These signal flags are great for wall hangings for two reasons -- they are affordable and you can mix and match for a personalized look.

I kept the bedding simple to keep with the overall lack of fussiness in this room.

But the red accents were essential to tying it all together. This Elio Chair is easy to move and clean.

This Red Lobster on White Square Pillow adds a bit of whimsy.

And the Red Antique Life Ring, available in different colors and sizes, brings it all together with the final pop of red.

And now for the final touches...

Telling time becomes a cinch with this nautical porthole clock, and this wrap will provide a little comfort on those chilly December nights studying for midterms.  (There are many choices in clocks at our site!)

This Pier Rope Lamp, very trendy in the world of decorating, adds a subtle yet decisive final touch to the space.

I believe this concludes College Dorm Room Decorating Week here at StylishBeachHome blog, but if you need more ideas, drop me a line in the combox and I'll be happy to dig deeper and come up with some new designs.
